DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Plant Protection Service, AGPP, and the immediate supervision of the Senior Officer, Locust and Other Migratory Pests Group, will provide support to structures and policy development designed to achieve effective locust control. Specifically will:

  • provide technical assistance to locust control operations and their improvement with a view to reducing environmental side-effects;
  • prepare components for the planning, implementation and coordination of national, regional and global locust activities;
  • prepare technical inputs for the EMPRES (Desert Locust) Programme;
  • provide technical assistance in the preparation and backstopping of projects related to outbreaks of locusts and other migratory pests;
  • prepare and review action plans, technical documents and reports on migratory pest control;
  • develop training programmes for locust-affected countries and conduct training courses;
  • where appropriate, provide assistance/support to the Desert Locust Information Service (DLIS) in analysing incoming locust reports and in preparing, as appropriate, Locust Bulletins and Alerts;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University Degree in Agriculture/Natural Sciences and an Advanced University Degree in a subject related to migratory pest management
  • Seven years of relevant experience in general pest control management
  • Working knowledge of English and French

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of technical knowledge of and experience in migratory pest management
  • Extent of knowledge of and experience in locust control operations and environmental issues
  • Relevance of experience in planning, project preparation, implementation and report reviewing
  • Quality of both written and oral communication skills in English on technical issues
  • Extent of experience and involvement in locust training courses

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

REMUNERATION

Level P-4 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 89 383 US$ 112 069 (without dependants) and from US$ 95 984 to US$ 121 041 (with dependants)
