DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Service Chief, FIES, the immediate supervision of the Senior Fishery Statistician and in collaboration with other services of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, especially with the Aquaculture Management and Conservation Service, to perform statistical work in support to the implementation of the programme dealing with the timely collation and dissemination of reliable and internationally comparable data on aquaculture. Specifically to:- execute the aquaculture statistical programme, ensuring prompt periodic collection of detailed statistics from national reporting offices;
- plan and carry out the collection and compilation of data/information, ensuring completeness and consistency and establish statistical procedures for the estimation of missing data;
- develop and manage FIES aquaculture database and arrange for data retrievals for the preparation of publications and in response to ad hoc requests;
- consolidate statistics for dissemination and publication of yearbooks and other reports relating to aquaculture statistics, including the status and trends of aquaculture production;
- coordinate and participate in development of standards, instructions and guidelines for data collection and for improving the consistency of data and statistics relevant to aquaculture production, including data on hatchery and farming systems, production inputs and outputs, required for sustainable management of aquaculture;
- provide technical assistance and advice to countries in relation to collection of data and statistics for monitoring of aquaculture production and activities;
- maintain close collaboration with other units within FAO and with other organizations to ensure the coordination and exchange of data and information;
- prepare technical documents for and participate in meetings relevant to data, information and statistics on aquaculture;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced University degree in statistics, economics, or biology, the latter supplemented by statistical courses
- Five years of relevant experience in the field of collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of data, information and statistics in national or international organizations, preferably in relation to aquaculture
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish, and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
|
- Extent of experiences in compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistics, in preparation of review and reports.
- Demonstrated ability in planning and coordination of statistical work; Familiarity with computerized data processing systems
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and sampling methodology as applied to aquaculture, fisheries, or agriculture including socio-economic aspects.
- Knowledge of aquaculture industry and inland water usage.
- Extent of effective communication skill both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability of working in a team and flexibility to cope with unexpected situation.

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 87,783
US$ 112,967
(without dependants) and from US$ 94,043
to US$ 121,453
