DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director, AGS and the functional guidance of the ADG/Regional Representative, RAF, to provide technical support in the implementation of the programme of work in the area of rural infrastructure and agro-industries. More specifically:- Provide technical advice and assistance to FAO Member Countries to support the development of their agro-industries through improved access to infrastructure services and value adding technologies;
- Develop and promote methodologies and guidelines for agro-industrial development aimed at improving food security, food safety, and enterprise competitiveness;
- Conduct technical analyses and reviews relating to rural infrastructure and agro-industries;
- Formulate strategies and policy guidelines for improving the efficiency and output of agro-industries and enterprises in FAO Member Countries;
- Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of rural infrastructure and agro-industries programmes and projects; advise on the selection of technical processes, machinery and equipment; supervision and technical backstopping; prepare and edit technical papers; help organise and participate in technical meetings;
- Serve as focal point for the Service and/or the Organisation for selected engineering technologies used in agro-industries and provide assistance and guidance to technical officers, including those stationed at other Regional, Sub-regional Offices and FAO Representations, concerning support for agro-industries development;
- Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced University Degree in Engineering with specialisation in an area related to rural infrastructure and agro-industries.
- Seven years of responsible experience in the development of rural infrastructure and agro-industries.
- Working knowledge of English and French.
|
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
|
- Level and relevance of academic qualifications.
- Extent and relevance of professional experience in the development of rural infrastructure and agro-industries in African countries, including in strategy formulation and policy guidance.
- Ability to provide timely technical advice on matters related to rural infrastructure and agro-industries.
- Ability to develop and implement programmes and projects related to rural infrastructure and agro-industries.
- Quality of communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of the cultural, social and economic conditions of the African region

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

|
Level P-4
carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 93,884
US$ 117,714
(without dependants) and from US$ 100,819
to US$ 127,138
