DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Chief, AFHT and the direct supervision of the Senior HR Officer responsible for the Language and Communication Skills Programme, the incumbent will:

  • supervise the day-to-day operations of the Language and Communication Skills Programme;
  • establish priorities and plan, coordinate and monitor the Language Skills Programme both from a linguistic and a supervisory perspective;
  • elaborate a yearly programme plan based on linguistic priorities;
  • prepare a financial plan for the Language Skills programme;
  • prepare the programme calendar and ensure that all deadlines are met;
  • ensure the development of a rigorous curriculum through the monitoring of its preparation as well as of development projects;
  • ensure continuous monitoring of quality service towards FAO, Embassies, Comune di Roma and UN agencies;
  • supervise the administration of the internal/external language examinations;
  • conduct interviews and selection of language teachers for all language groups;
  • assign work to teachers, keeping track of both individual and group classes;
  • supervise teaching syllabus preparation and undertake periodic reviews;
  • provide managers and training focal points with assistance regarding programme information and reporting;
  • act as an HR advisor on staff development learning to select departments;
  • perform other related duties as required.

*DURATION OF THE POST IS TEMPORARY WITH POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University degree in education, language or related area
  • Three years of experience in adult education, preferably in language teaching, including development, instruction, programme administration and coordination of a learning programme
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

 

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Extent of demonstrated experience in language learning programme development and administration
  • Extent of knowledge of teaching methods and tools and of computer-assisted language learning
  • Extent of administrative and organizational skills
  • Extent of experience working in an international multi-cultural workplace
  • Extent of knowledge of languages, including knowledge of Italian
  • Proven experience as a team player with sensitivity in dealing with different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION

Level P-2 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 77 587 US$ 95 388 (without dependants) and from US$ 82 718 to US$ 102 225 (with dependants)
