DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Fish Utilization and Marketing Service, and the immediate supervision of the assigned Senior Officer, will provide technical support to and participate in activities on the technological aspects of fish and fishery products and in the utilization of aquatic living resources. In particular will:- provide advice on methods suitable for upgrading the utilization, technology and quality of fishery resources and provide assistance to improve fish handling, processing and distribution;
- extract technological information from various databases, review new trends and developments in fish utilization technology and make relevant technical information available as required;
- provide assistance to Member Governments in the efficient implementation of the code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, particularly in the area of post harvest activities, through advice on all aspects of fish product technology and quality;
- develop training materials and participate in the conduct of national, regional or global training courses;
- liaise with research and extension institutions in both developing and developed countries and other organizations in order to develop partnerships and promote their involvement in FAO’s programme of work in fish utilization, technology and quality;
- contribute to the implementation of the programme of the Codex Alimentarius relevant to fish and fishery products;
- prepare technical documentation and provide technical support to projects on improving fish utilization, technology and quality in developing countries;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- Advanced University Degree in disciplines relevant to fish utilization, quality and technology, such as in Food science, Food Technology, Food Engineering, Veterinary Medicine or related subjects
- Seven years of relevant experience in areas related to fish handling, processing, utilization, technology and quality
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

- Relevance of academic background
- Extent of experience in the field of fish handling, processing, utilization, technology and quality at national or international level
- Relevance of experience in the planning and implementation of projects related to fish handling, processing, utilization, technology and quality
- Extent of experience in organizing training programmes and workshops
- Quality of both oral and written communication skills on technical issues
- Extent of language skills

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

Level P-4
carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 105,738
US$ 132,577
(without dependants) and from US$ 113,548
to US$ 143,191
(with dependants)
