DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Inspector-General, and direct supervision of a more senior internal auditor:- Conduct or contribute to comprehensive audits with emphasis on financial aspects, project, programme or operational reviews that evaluate and report on the soundness and adequacy of procedures and internal controls designed to ensure that the resources of the Organization are properly utilised and safeguarded and that liabilities have been properly incurred, recorded and discharged, and where appropriate make recommendations for improved management controls, cost reductions and enhanced efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
- Review and evaluate the system of management controls and assess their effectiveness in the light of present operations
- Carry out field reviews to ensure that funds are being expended properly, projects are implemented as planned and in the
- most economic manner and over-expenditures are identified and authorised prior to commitment.
- Prepare work plans (including risk analysis) and audit programmes, and draft related reports.
- Participate in investigatory work, special studies and reviews.
- Perform other related duties as required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- University degree or certification from a recognised specialized professional institute in one of the disciplines associated with internal auditing (e.g. accounting, computer science, business and programme management or public administration)
- Five years of audit or related experience in an organization using modern auditing, accounting, management and information systems techniques (e.g. internal audit department in the public or private sector, or an auditing, accounting or consulting firm)
- Working knowledge of English, limited knowledge of another official language of the Organization (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chinese)

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

- Extent and relevance of educational qualifications
- Extent and relevance of experience in auditing, accounting and business administration
- Proficiency in drafting and preparing audit reports
- Extent of knowledge of financial and administrative computerised systems, applications and reporting tools
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing and ability to write clear and concise reports
- Capacity to work effectively in a team and take independent action
- Efficiency, analytical ability, discretion and confidentiality

* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.
