DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Plant Protection Service, AGPP, and the immediate supervision of the Senior Officer (Locust Information and Forecasting), Locust and Other Migratory Pests Group, the incumbent will:
- participate in the development of a spatially-enabled data management system to provide a platform for monitoring cereal rusts worldwide;
- analyse information and data on the status and spread of emerging rust pathogens of concern;
- provide technical assistance to national programmes to enhance their capacity to undertake effective cereal rust tracking and monitoring, through the provision of appropriate tools and protocols;
- develop training material and participate in the conduct of training courses;
- prepare and disseminate targeted information products (status reports, technical bulletins, web-based maps and alerts) relating to the status and spread of rust pathogens, including the wheat stem rust race Ug99 lineage;
- participate in the creation and promotion of a global network of cereal rust surveillance partners;
- perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
|
- University Degree in Agriculture or Natural sciences
- 5 years relevant experience using GIS in agriculture including cereal rust monitoring
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
|
- Extent of knowledge of and working experience in monitoring of cereal rust pathogens using spatial technologies
- Depth of knowledge of and working experience with cereal rust pathogens including emerging races such as Ug99
- Quality of both written and oral communication skills on technical issues in English
- Demonstrated track record of scientific publication and project development
- Extent of experience working with partner networks in developing countries and organizing training related to applied spatial technologies
