DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Chief, Fisheries Management and Conservation Service (FIMF), the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and in close cooperation with the National Focal Points of the participating countries in the West Mediterranean, the incumbent will provide assistance in the implementation of the project’s socio-economics activities. More specifically :

  • assist in providing technical support in the identification and implementation of surveys, studies and activities related to socio-economic aspects of the management of marine fisheries;
  • contribute to the implementation and eventual harmonization of the national fisheries management policies, including the development and the use of socio-economic indicators for the sustainable development of capture fisheries;
  • participate in the development and implementation of the ArtFiMed project’s activities in support to the artisanal fishing communities in Morocco and Tunisia including joint activities providing the necessary inputs especially to consultants and national counterparts;
  • develop and maintain contacts with National Focal Points and other Government fisheries staff for general coordination and exchange of information;
  • maintain and expand the network and database systems established to support the development of a sub-regional fisheries monitoring system;
  • develop standardised data collection procedures and prepare the training manuals;
  • contribute to the preparation of, provide support to and participate in technical meetings, and promote participation of relevant stakeholders in meetings and workshops;
  • draft technical documentation and consultant reports, and contribute to the preparation of the project’s six-month progress reports and draft terminal report of the project;
  • perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:

  • University degree in fisheries management, economics, social studies, or related field
  • Five years of relevant experience in sustainable fisheries management and governance, fisheries monitoring and fishery statistics, including experience with institutional development and international co-operation
  • Working knowledge of English and French

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritise work
  • Experience in project analysis and formulation related to fisheries management, including development and implementation of activities in support to the small-scale fishing communities
  • Demonstrated experience in fisheries socio-economics and depth of knowledge of current issues in management and governance of marine fisheries in the Mediterranean Sea
  • Limited knowledge of Spanish
  • Communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Computer literacy and good experience in using and managing fisheries data bases
  • Extent of experience in analytical work, drafting and preparing reports and scientific documents

REMUNERATION

Level carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ US$ (without dependants) and from US$ to US$ (with dependants)
