Summary of Duties and Functions

Under the supervision of the Regional Representative, (RR) and the functional guidance of Departments and Independent Offices at Headquarters, the officer carries the function of Subregional Coordniator for the Caribbean (SLC).

The Subregional Coordinator is FAO’s focal point for addressing subregional food security, agriculture and rural development issues.  He/she heads a Subregional Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).   He/she contributes to the preparation of the National Medium-Term Priority Frameworks (NMTPFs) for the subregional member countries and ensures effective collaboration with subregional economic integration organizations, UN-system entities at the subregional and national levels, and other subregional institutions and media. He/she provides functional guidance to FAO Representatives in the subregion, in their capacity as MDT members.

In particular, he/she:

  • Develops and maintains regular contacts and partnership with subregional organizations, stakeholders, civil society and private sector representatives.  In countries where there is no FAOR accredited he/she develops and maintains regular contacts and partnership with relevant government counterparts.

  • Supports the subregional policy dialogue on food security, agriculture and rural development issues, supports related capacity building and resource mobilization efforts and facilitates subregional partnerships.

  • Supports the food security, agriculture and rural development aspects of aid coordination and joint UN strategy and programme development at subregional level.  

  • Leads the contribution of the Subregional Office (SRO) and its MDT to FAO’s programme and budget process.

  • Promotes the sharing and exchange of knowledge and best practices on food security, agriculture and rural development between countries, subregions and regions.

  • Leads the MDT in developing and implementing the Field Programme in support of subregional organizations and of countries in the subregion.

  • Monitors and reports on implementation of FAO’s subregional programmes and projects.

  • Manages and administers the Organization’s resources and staff allocated to the Subregional Office.
General Requirements
  • University degree or equivalent professional qualification in a technical area related to the work of the Organization.

  • Extensive managerial and professional experience in fields related to the mandate of FAO or to that of other international or national organizations dealing with development issues.  

  • Excellent knowledge of English.  Some knowledge of Spanish or French would be an asset.

  • Demonstrated professional competence, proven leadership capability and effective management skills.

  • Ability to lead and work effectively with a diverse team of people of different national and cultural backgrounds in an international setting.

Remuneration Without dependents: From USD 149,469 to USD 167,651(inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment)
With dependents: USD 161,708 to USD 182,771 (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment)
