FAO is looking for people who have demonstrated their previous competencies and expertise in previous job(s) for a number of years and who are competent in FAO's working languages.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• University degree relevant to the job
• Work experience relevant to the job
• Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and a limited knowledge of one of the other two**
• Computer software skills (e.g. MS Office)
• Ability to work productively and maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
• Willing and fit to work and travel anywhere in the world

REMUNERATION

FAO adheres to the UN common system of salaries, allowances and benefits. General information regarding salaries and allowances can be found at the International Civil Service Commission Web site. Specific information is listed in each vacancy announcement.

2. Complete a Personal History Form, available in MS Word (A4 and letter formats) - a separate application is necessary for each vacancy. Send your application(s) to the address given in the vacancy announcement.
3. You will receive a response from the division where you applied approximately four weeks after the application has been received by FAO. Please refrain from inquiries during this period, as this will only delay the process.
4. If you are selected for an employment interview, we will contact you again. Please note that the selection process can take up to six months.

Initial contracts with FAO are for one to three years, as specified in each vacancy announcement. Contracts may be renewed thereafter but there is no guarantee.

**With a working knowledge of a language, you will be expected to work independently using the language required, to prepare a variety of written communications (correspondence, reports, working papers, etc), to participate actively in meetings and in work-related discussions, etc.
  With a limited knowledge of a language, you will be expected to follow work-related discussions or meetings, even though you may wish to intervene in another official language. You will be expected to participate in simple conversations, to use the telephone, to read and understand work-related texts and to write simple communications, etc.
