PRESIDENT CHISSANO OF MOZAMBIQUE VISITS FAO HEADQUARTERS FOR TALKS WITH DIRECTOR-GENERAL JACQUES DIOUF

Rome, 20 May. - President Joaquim Alberto Chissano of Mozambique today visited the Headquarters of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for talks with FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf.

President Chissano and Dr. Diouf discussed a series of agricultural and development issues, including FAO programmes in Mozambique and particularly the implementation of the Special Programme for Food Security which is being developed as a follow-up to the decisions taken by Heads of State and Government during the World Food Summit in November 1996.

The President of Mozambique was accompanied by a high-level delegation including Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mrs. Fernanda Lichale, Director for Europe at the same Ministry.
