Acaricide Resistance

The issue of acaricide resistance is especially important in South America and Australia. To enable farmers continue to protect their animals against ticks, alternatives for acaricides and ways of lengthening the life time of an acaricide are explored and developed by research groups and the Animal Health Pharmaceutical Industry.

FAO has in the past assisted in this through the World Acaricide Resistance Reference Centre (WARRC) in Berlin and has recently provided a forum for experts and Industry to discuss this growing constraint in the livestock production sector. FAO is now in the process of formulating recommendations and guidelines for the promotion of an Integrated Parasite Management approach.
