SIS and FAO grant farming programme in El Salvador

Mobilizing political commitment for a hunger-free world

21 June 2012, Rio de Janeiro - FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva today warmly welcomed the “Zero Hunger Challenge” announced by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Support under plant genetics treaty fund announced during Rio+20

21 June 2012, Rio de Janeiro - The European Union is contributing €5 million (6.5 million dollars) towards the Benefit-sharing Fund of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, FAO announced today, at a high-level ministerial meeting on the plant treaty at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.

Discussions link hunger, poverty and sustainable development

Joint statement published for G20 summit in Mexico

19 June 2012, Rome - The UN food agencies based in Rome have expressed the wish that G20 leaders meeting in Mexico redouble their efforts to fight hunger. Governing body supports new strategic planning, decentralization

15 June 2012, Rome - FAO's governing Council has endorsed Director-General José Graziano da Silva's reform proposals to regenerate the Organization by reallocating budgetary savings to strengthen country offices, increase strategic planning capacity and provide resources for interdisciplinary work.
