Biography

Ms Dilek Macit is Assistant Director-General at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Her current responsibilities include resource mobilization, enhancing FAO’s relationships with Multilateral Development Banks and Development Finance Institutions, and fostering private sector partnerships to better collaboratively and collectively promote sustainable development.

She was appointed in June 2018 as Assistant Director-General for Corporate Services Department where she led the Finance and Governing Bodies Servicing Divisions as well as the units handling administration (including the global Shared Services Centre), Procurement, Health, Security services, and Facilities Management/Infrastructure, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of business operations and business continuity, balancing operational support with risk management. Her achievements include leading major procurement reform, its decentralization and delegation of authority.

Passionate about development and those involved in delivering it, she has served on several interagency tasks forces including UN Business innovation, Sexual Harassment and Duty of Care. Ms Macit has championed an inclusive “safe space” work environment. She has chaired many internal committees including those on investments, staff representative bodies, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as led training and capacity building. She has a strong track record in collaboration with governing bodies, donors and the Rome-based agencies.

She serves on the Board of Governors of the UN System Staff College.

Prior to joining FAO, Ms Macit worked in international development at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London for 25 years, with a focus on delivering results and change management. Having started as Counsel at the formation of EBRD, she held managerial and leadership positions with progressively increased responsibility: from 1997 to 2008, she worked as Director, Consultancy Services and during that period, she also served as Acting Director Procurement and Purchasing Department (December 2007 - May 2008). From May 2008 to December 2012, Ms Macit worked as Director, Consultancy and Corporate Procurement Department, leading operational support, and ensuring quality assurance and compliance functions. From January 2013 to December 2017, she served as Director, Technical Cooperation, EBRD where she was responsible amongst others, for the approval of the Bank’s technical assistance projects, governance structure, and also formulated and implemented a technical assistance results framework for the Bank.

Ms Macit, a Turkish national is a lawyer, having qualified as barrister, and then solicitor, in England and Wales. She holds LLB. (Hons) and MA degrees in Law from City, University of London, and had worked for five years in law firms in London prior to joining EBRD.

She has served on private company boards and advisory boards for professional associations.
