Friday, 7th December 2018 from 12.30 to 14.00, Sheikh Zayed Centre

Africa Solidarity Trust Fund

About the event:

The ASTF was launched in 2013 as a unique financing mechanism that pools resources from African countries to support critical national and regional initiatives. It is one of the most successful stories of Africa’s partnership with the FAO. Its main goal is to assist countries to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, eliminate rural poverty and manage natural resources in a sustainable manner. The ASTF enables an effective synchrony between the priority challenges currently faced by African agriculture and food systems, and the development solutions deployed to address them. So far, it has supported 18 projects in 41 Sub-Saharan countries. The new phase of the ASTF seeks to expand its reach in terms of both volume of resources and scale of impact through expanded partnership.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Side Event is two-fold: i) to raise the awareness of the ASTF as a successful unearmarked pooled funding mechanism based on its five years of implementation, and ii) sensitize member countries, especially from Africa and “friends of Africa” for its recapitalization and expansion.
