In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Director-General has decided, in consultation with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and discussion with the Regional Group, to postpone the dates of the 32nd Regional Conference for Europe to the second half of 2020.

32nd Session - 2020, Tashkent, Uzbekistan

The 32nd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe (ERC) is open to all FAO Members in the Europe and Central Asia region, to representatives of the United Nations Bodies and Specialized Agencies, and to selected Observers.

The Conference includes a Ministerial Roundtable on Tuesday, 5 May, where participants will discuss sustainable food systems and healthy diets in Europe and Central Asia. The roundtable aims at outlining the status of nutrition and sustainable food systems, identifying interlinkages and related challenges and opportunities in the region.

A second major topic to be covered on the Conference’s opening day is solutions for youth, employment and developing rural areas. In the plenary session, the Conference will discuss the situation analysis of smallholders, family farms, and rural youth in agriculture, including a review of strategies that can potentially foster the revitalization of rural areas in the region.

On Wednesday, 6 May, the Regional Conference will review FAO’s network of decentralized offices in the region, the Synthesis of FAO Evaluations 2014–2019 in Europe and Central Asia, and establish priority areas of work for FAO in the region for the next biennium. It will consider reports of recent session of FAO regional commissions on agriculture, forestry, and fisheries and aquaculture. Members will receive information on the United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition and the Follow-up to the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2), and on the Status of Biodiversity in Europe and Central Asia.

Main sessions will be complemented by several side events covering topics including the Hand in Hand initiative, the One Health approach, and food security.

The Conference will conclude on Thursday, 7 May, with a field visit to an agricultural facility in Tashkent, followed by the adoption of the final report.
