Get involved: Organize an event for European Forest Week

National and local activities held simultaneously in participating countries will raise awareness on forests, our common good, through contests, exhibitions, talks and videos. Events in the past have included a wilderness retreat in Austria, lectures in Spain, a forestry film festival in Czech Republic, a workshop on flood prevention in Ukraine, and many more. Poland

"Forest management planning in Poland – organization, history, future". Warsaw, Poland 12 October 2017
The first activities in the field of forest management were carried out in Poland already in the 16th century. The forest management planning system in its current form has been in operation for over 60 years. This session will present principal aims of forest management in Poland, organization of the inventory and planning system, its main components and information sources.

New Green Jobs in the Forest Sector, Warsaw Poland, 9 to 13 October
The transition to a greener economy offers important opportunities for new green jobs in the forest sector. Considering the worldwide megatrends affecting employment, European forests give a new boost for jobs, growth and investment in urbanized but specially and most important also in rural areas. During this side-event the UNECR/FAO/ILOTeam of Specialists on Green Jobs in the forest sector (ToS) will show results of their work (report on Green Jobs in the Forest Sector) and discuss the consequences of these findings.

Event in Poland for junior high school students: 9-13 October
Educational activities will take place in 10 forest districts located near large urban areas where inhabitants are less likely to come in contact with forests. Participants will learn about the role of forests in the carbon cycle and climate change mitigation in the context of the 2015 Paris Agreement. Participating forest districts include: Gdańsk (RDSF in Gdańsk), Gryfino (RDSF in Szczecin), Łopuchówko (RDSF in Poznań), Oborniki Śląskie (RDSF in Wroclaw), Katowice (RDSF in Katowice), Niepołomice (RDSF in Cracow) Brzeziny (RDSF in Łódź), Celestine (RDSF in Warsaw), Dojlidy (RDSF in Białystok), Świdnik (RDSF in Lublin).

Forest Research Institute in Poland: 10 October 
Classes and workshops will be hosted by the Forest Research Institute for university students. Topics to be covered include environmental monitoring and biodiversity.

Le Week-End du Bois et des Forêts d’Ardenne – Belgique & Luxembourg 13-15 octobre

Czech Republic

12th European Forest Pedagogics Congress 2017, Milovy, Czech Republic, 3-6 October 
The European Forest Pedagogy Congress is organised annually to provide a platform for the exchange of experiences and for the discussion of currently relevant topics or challenges for forest pedagogy in Europe. The focus of this year’s congress is on challenges and opportunities in forest pedagogy as both communication and environmental education and relations between them.

France

SIMWOOD – Sustainable Innovative Mobilization of Wood – Paris, France 12-13 October 2017
A final Conference of the SIMWOOD project will be held in Paris with the aim of sharing results and lessons learnt from regional wood mobilization initiatives. Participating SME and active mobilisers throughout Europe will present and illustrate those results and lessons learned.

 

Greece

18th Congress of the Hellenic Forestry Society & International Workshop - Edessa, Greece, 8-11 October
The subject of the Congress, which will be held back-to-back with an International Workshop, is «Hellenic Forestry facing major challenges: sustainable forest management, forest cadaster, environmental technologies-networking and nature protection». The International Workshop will focus on “Information Technology, Sustainable Development, Scientific Networks & Nature Protection”.

Italy

XI Congresso Nazionale SISEF - LA FORESTA CHE CAMBIA - Rome, Italy 10-13 Ottobre 2017
SISEF organizza l'XI Congresso Nazionale come occasione di incontro e confronto tra ricercatori, istituzioni e società civile sulle tematiche di più stretta attualità. Il Congresso assume particolare importanza in quanto il 2017 è un anno di grandi cambiamenti nel settore forestale del nostro Paese e in via straordinaria si terrà a Roma dal 10 al 13 Ottobre 2017, presso il Centro Congressi del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.

Luxembourg

Bëschfest 2017 – Insenborn, Luxenburg 7.-8. Oktober
So multifunktional der Wald ist, so unterschiedlich sind seine „Nutzer“. Die diesjährige Ausgabe des „Bëschfest“ schafft eine einzigartige Waldinformations- Plattform die darauf abzielt, die unterschiedlichen Interessengruppen von Familien über Naturfreunde und Waldbesitzer bis hin zu Fachleuten während einem Wochenende im Wald zusammenzuführen.

Journée du bois 2017 au Moulin de Beckerich – Beckerich, Luxembourg 15 octobre
Cette "Journée du bois au moulin de Beckerich" est organisée dans le cadre du Week end du bois. Plus de 20 activités sont programmées cette année. Le thème est "Bois et Sons", ce qui explique que nous accueillerons un atelier de lutherie, des instruments en bois géants, un marionnettiste avec des personnages en bois, un atelier de fabrication de petites flûtes pour enfants, un tourneur sur bois, etc. Possibilité de se restaurer sur place au restaurant andermillen ou au millespënnchen.

Slovakia 

Bioeconomy and European Forest Week 2017
This year, the fourth European Forest Week will take place from 9 to13 October 2017. On this occasion, FOREST EUROPE – Liaison Unit Bratislava prepared a campaign “Bioeconomy and European Forest Week 2017 – a great chance to see the role of our forests in education for sustainable development” to support celebration of European Forest Week 2017.

Spain 

Grao en Enxeñaria Forestal, Escola Enxeñaría Forestal - Pontevedra Spain 13 october
At a media briefing held on 13 October 2017 at the University of Vigo, Spain, the Vicerector, Dr. Juan Manuel Corbacho and the Dean of the Forestry Faculty of Pontevedra, Mr Juan Picos officially committed to and supported the main messages of the EFW 2017, as well as presenting how the Faculty Policy is lining up with the Rovaniemi Action Plan.

Switzerland

European Forest Week – Exhibition. Pregny Gate, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland 15 Sep – 31 Oct
In order to raise awareness of the importance of forests in Europe, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) - Forestry and Timber Section - joined forces and developed a public exhibition at Pregny Gate, Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland which runs from 15 September to the end of October. The exhibition was developed on the occasion of the 4th European Forest Week (EFW), which will be celebrated from 9 to 13 October 2017 all over Europe.
