Spanish Senate, 29th -30th October 2018

The Spanish Senate will host next 29-3 October the First Global Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition, a meeting that seeks to advance political will to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2) at the international leve

The UN 2030 Agenda urges countries to redouble their efforts to meet Sustainable Development Goal 2, which pledges to "end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture" in order to build a world in which "no one is left behind".

Evidence has shown that where strong legislative frameworks exist and are implemented, the rate of hunger and malnutrition decreases. There are currently more than 30 Parliamentary Alliances and Fronts across the world that have brought together different political groups interested in promoting the right to food and combating hunger.

Spain is specially commited to end hunger. Last September the Spanish Parliamentary Alliance in favour to Right to Food, which is composed of 160 members, and the Right to Food Watchdog of Spain (ODA-E), a network of academic institutions, were officially launched.

The event will be live broadcasted through the Summit´s website.
