Improving Diets and raising levels of nutrition - Food-based approaches

The International Symposium on Food and Nutrition Security: Food-based Approaches for Improving Diets and Raising Levels of Nutrition was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to better document the contribution that food and agriculture can make to improving nutrition. FAO, a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN), is mandated to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living and to ensure humanity’s freedom from hunger by promoting sustainable agricultural development and alleviating poverty. FAO offers direct development assistance and policy and planning advice to governments for improving the efficiency of the production, distribution and consumption of food and agricultural products; it collects, analyses and disseminates information, and acts as an international forum for debate on food, nutrition and agricultural issues.
