Director-General meets Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs

Graziano da Silva acknowledges the effort of the Italian government to maintain its voluntary contributions in 2014

16 October 2013, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met today with the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Emma Bonino. The Italian minister participated in the closing ceremony of World Food Day.

In her meeting with the Director-General, Bonino said that the Italian government intends to maintain its voluntary contributions to FAO in 2014 despite  the economic difficulties the country is going through.

She also said that the government is interested in closely cooperating with FAO at Expo 2015 in Milan and in the Second International Conference on Nutrition, which will take place in 2014 in Rome.

The minister also underlined that Italy will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2014 and would support FAO in its promotion of the International Year of Family Farming.
