Addis Ababa meeting a unique opportunity to strengthen hunger commitment

19 June 2013, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and Ethiopian Minister for Agriculture, Tefera Derbew, met here during FAO’s 38th governing Conference and discussed the importance of the High Level International Meeting on ending hunger in Africa scheduled for  June 30-July 1in Addis Ababa.

Graziano da Silva noted that the meeting represents a unique opportunity to strengthen and renew the commitment to eradicate hunger by 2025. He also thanked the Minister for his country’s support and contribution to the success of the meeting, which is co-organized by the African Union, FAO and Brazil’s Instituto Lula, with the participation of IFAD, WFP and other partners.

The Minister thanked the Director-General for a well organized and attended Conference. According to Derbew, the presence of so many heads of State in Rome is a strong endorsement of Graziano da Silva’s leadership and of support for his Programme of Work and Budget.
