5 December 2013, Rome, Italy - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva held a meeting with the Vice Minister for Agriculture of the Republic of Liberia Charles McClain at FAO Headquarters today.

Graziano da Silva showed his support to the Minister and he also informed Minister McClain that Liberia is one of the countries for which resources are being mobilized to finance implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines.

The Minister said  he needs FAO’s support for coordination in the agriculture sector, particularly at the policy level. He also underlined that revitalizing the forum where heads of development partners in the agriculture sector and the Minister of Agriculture as well as civil society partners can meet, exchange ideas and discuss relevant issues to the sector could help.

Director-General offered FAO’s support to develop a modern fisheries and aquacultures strategy to enable the reconstruction of the sector back to a pre-war production level.
