27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with the Chairman and Director General of Kuwait’s Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources Jasem Mohammad Habib Al-Bader at FAO headquarters today.

The Chairman expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing debates at the Near East Regional Conference and with the regional initiatives discussed during the same.

He highlighted the importance of the event within the renewed FAO and its emphasis on decentralization. The Chairman also conveyed the satisfaction of the Kuwaiti delegation with the regional initiatives discussed during the conference to face central challenges in the region, such as water scarcity.

Graziano da Silva thanked the Chairman for the warm welcome and  hospitality received during his recent visit to the country. He underlined the potential that he had observed, notably in the fisheries domain.

During the meeting, the FAO chief highlighted the possibility of having Kuwaiti experts trained at the regional and sub-regional offices or at FAO headquarters in Rome.

He also underlined the important experience and expertise that Kuwait could share with other countries in the region.
