Graziano da Silva meets with Cyprus Minister of Agriculture


FAO Director General Johe Graziano da Silva meeting Kouyialis Nicos H.E. Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment

5 March 2014, Budapest – Director-General of FAO Jose’ Graziano da Silva met today with Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Kouyialis Nicos.

The encounter took place on the margins of the Global Forum and Expo on Family Farming (Budapest, 4-6 March 2014).

The Director-General and the Minister discussed ways of enhancing the mutually beneficial cooperation between FAO and the Government of Cyprus.  The experience and technical expertise of Cyprus in the field of irrigation was highlighted as one promising area for future cooperation.  Fisheries, aquaculture and “blue growth” were also discussed. The experience of Cyprus as a small-island developing state (SIDS) was underlined as being of value to other countries facing similar challenges.

Also discussed was the need to follow up the outcomes of the Global Forum on Family Farming, and to continue to build awareness of the needs and potentials of family farming.

The Director-General and the Minister agreed to continue bilateral contacts at both Ministerial and working levels.
