Director-General supports World Soils Day proposal by Thailand

Thailand a pioneer in soil health

20 June 2013, Rome, Italy – FAO backs a proposal from Thailand to create an International Soil Day. At a meeting on 18 June with the Thai Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Yukol Limlamthong, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva told him that FAO will give support to this initiative when it is discussed in the General Assembly.

Rapibhat Chandarasrivongs,  Permanent Representative of Thailand to FAO, was recently elected as  Chairman of the Global Soil Partnership Assembly. His election recognizes Thailand’s leadership and active engagement in soil health and in promoting greater awareness of the importance of soils.
