3 April 2014, Bucharest, Romania – In the course of a meeting between FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva and Bulgaria’s Minister for Agriculture and Food Dimitar Grekov, it was agreed to expand cooperation between Bulgaria and FAO – particularly in the course of implementing the 2014-2020 National Development Strategy in the framework of an European Commission programme for agriculture and rural development.

At the meeting, the Minister highlighted the Government’s commitment to supporting small family farms and giving greater recognition to their role in ensuring the country’s food supply.

The Bulgarian Government is confident this support will result in expanded agro-production and benefit small farmers.

The meeting took place on the margins of the 29th FAO Regional Conference for Europe, which is the Organization’s governing body for the Europe and Central Asia region.
