Strengthening the Comoros’ National System of Sanitary Control of Food Safety
28 March 2014, Tunis, Tunisia – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met today with the Union of the Comoros Minister of Production, Environment, Energy, Industry and Handicrafts Abdou Nassur Madin, on the sidelines of FAO’s 28th Regional Conference for Africa in Tunis.
The talks focused on FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) in the country which aims to assist the Comoros boost its National System of Sanitary Control of Food Safety and build the capacity of its Codex Alimentarius National Committee.
The Minister thanked FAO for its support, especially in relation to the Codex Alimentarius, and requested the Organization’s assistance to strengthen the Ministry’s capacity, notably in statistics, livestock census and fisheries.
They also discussed ways youth can be included in the aquaculture and small livestock sectors and Graziano da Silva expressed FAO’s full commitment to the Comoros.
