Graziano da Silva meets the Minister of Agriculture of Côte d’Ivoire
27 March 2014 Tunis, Tunisia – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met today with the Minister of Agriculture for Côte d’Ivoire, Coulibaly Sangafowa, on the sidelines of the 28th FAO Regional Conference for Africa held in Tunis.
He congratulated Minister Sangafowa for being the next host country of the 29th Regional Conference for Africa, to be held in 2016. Graziano da Silva promised the Minister FAO’s support both through headquarters as well as the Regional Office for Africa.
Côte d’Ivoire will also host the upcoming Conference of Pest of small ruminants, to which FAO Director-General commited the Organization’s support.
Both discussed South-South Cooperation issues, in particular in livestock programmes. Graziano da Silva commended the fact that Côte d’Ivoire is trying to combine aquaculture and fish farming .
Minister Sangafowa thanked Graziano da Silva for FAO’s support in the land reform undertaken by the country, as well as for the Organization’s expertise in statistics for their agricultural census.
The Minister welcomed the discussions that took place during the Conference about a rice initiative for Africa to which he committed to fully participate.
