Graziano da Silva meets with Nigerian President
30 January 2014, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck today thanked FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva for the award FAO gave to Nigeria recognizing the efforts of its government to halve the proportion of hungry people in the country.
Goodluck mentioned the importance of encouraging countries by showing success stories and examples of where the fight against hunger has had success.
The two principals discussed the issues of the Sahel region as well as the refugees that are in need of support. The important role of Nigeria as a possible food basket for the countries of the Sahel has been much discussed.
The President thanked the Director-General for his leadership and his contribution to world food security and for pushing the boundaries to meet the Zero Hunger Challenge.
The Director-General accepted an invitation by President Goodluck to visit Nigeria.
