Italian Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policy offers support to FAO
06 March, 2012, Rome - Italian Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policy, Mario Catania welcomed FAO’s new Director-General José Graziano da Silva during their first official meeting on 6 March 2012.
Graziano da Silva outlined his programme for FAO’s future work, including the renewed attention to increasing world food production as a crucial pathway to eliminating hunger, a geographic priority in Africa and the need of decentralization for a stronger FAO at the local level.
The Minister offered full support to the proposals and said that Italy could provide expertise and research also at the technical level, despite overall budgetary constraints. The two agreed to step up cooperation at the technical level.
Catania also invited the Director-General to attend the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre event in Turin in October 2012 and discussed participation in the World Expo 2015, to be held in Milan.
