2013年4月24日，意大利罗马 - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today expressed satisfaction at the work of FAO’s 27th Regional Conference for Africa at a meeting with its Chairman, Republic of Congo Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Rigobert Maboundou.
Graziano da Silva congratulated Maboundou for his leadership of the Conference and for mobilizing the African community in support of FAO’s Immediate Plan of Action for FAO renewal. All the more important given African countries’ significant role in implementing that plan.
Maboundou, here to attend a week-long session of FAO’s governing Council, said that while in Rome he was able to meet with African Permanent Representatives to FAO to seek their support for the priorities defined at the Conference in April 2012, including the creation of an Africa Solidarity Trust Fund.
As custodian of the Conference’s final Declaration, Maboundou said it was his responsibility to ensure that countries honoured their commitment to contribute to the fund and enable it to start operating. Three countries have so far announced they will contribute to the fund – Republic of Congo, Angola and Equatorial Guinea.
The Africa Solidarity Trust Fund, which will be administered and facilitated by FAO, was created at the initiative of FAO's 27th Regional Conference for Africa. It will support activities to enhance the capacity of governments and regional organizations to eradicate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in the framework of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
