FAO and Samoa strengthen ties at Asia-Pacific Regional Conference

Graziano da Silva meets the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

13 March 2014, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Samoa's Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Le Mamea Ropati Mualia met with FAO’s Director-General José Graziano da Silva today to discuss issues of joint interest during FAO’s Thirty-Second Asia Pacific Regional Conference.

Mualia pointed out: “The Director-General is a big Chief in Samoa, he’s got the title of Tagaloaletoa Ole Malae Ole Toto, which was bestowed on him in April 2013 and he’s a good friend. Every time we see him, we feel very happy and discuss issues pertaining to the Ministry of Agriculture in Samoa.”

He added, “The meeting went very well, and also the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference that we have here this week has gone well. In fact, I’m very proud of the delegations from the Pacific Island Countries, because this is the first time there were a lot of presentations by the ministers and their delegations in the regional meeting.”

Samoa’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry said he hoped FAO would “continue directing agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries assistance toward Samoa and to the FAO Subregional Office in Samoa, because that’s the office for all the Pacific Island Countries.”
