FAO to ramp up support for family farming, more ‘inclusive’ agri-business, reduced food waste and losses, zero malnutrition in the region

4 April 2014, Bucharest – Recognizing the coexistence in the region of large-scale mechanized farming alongside more traditional family farms, the FAO Regional Conference held in Bucharest this week endorsed two over-arching initiatives for FAO to pursue in 2014-15: strengthening family farms and smallholder agriculture, and improving agri-food trade and regional trade integration.

Ambassador welcomes the commemoration of the International Year of Family Farming

3 April 2014, Bucharest, Romania – Strengthening cooperation with FAO and expanding FAO programmes in Uzbekistan – particularly on irrigation, water management and food safety issues  – were the focus of FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva’s meeting today with the Ilhomjon Nematov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

Discussion underlines the importance of family farming in the country

3 April 2014, Bucharest, Romania – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met today with Krystyna Gurbel, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland.

3 April 2014, Bucharest, Romania – On the margins of the 29th FAO Regional Conference for Europe, which is the Organization’s governing body for the Europe and Central Asia region, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Ilham Guliyev, Deputy Minister for Agriculture of Azerbaijan.

Graziano da Silva noted Azerbaijan’s status as an emerging donor and called upon the nation to actively cooperate with FAO.
