Lahoud: “Since you took office, we feel that cooperation has increased tremendously”

28 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Lebanon’s Director General of Agriculture (Ministry of Agriculture) Louis Lahoud, at FAO headquarters today.

Both principals discussed the FAO projects for rural development currently under implementation in Lebanon.

“Since you took office, we feel that cooperation has increased tremendously,” Minister Lahoud told FAO Director-General.

Lebanon’s Director General for Agriculture highlighted the challenges facing the country’s agricultural sector.

28 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Mauritania’s Minister of Rural Development Brahim Ould Mohamed El Moctar Ould M'Mbareck, at FAO headquarters today.

Graziano da Silva thanked the Minister for the warm welcome received during his last visit to Nouakchott in October 2013.

27 February 2014, Rome -  The worsening of the food security situation in the Near East is not only caused by the structural constraints the region faces in producing enough food and an increasing dependence on food imports but by conflict, the flow of refugees and migration, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva said today.

Graziano da Silva highlights the need for a concerted strategy in the country

27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met withYemen’s Minister of  Agriculture and Irrigation Farid Ahmed Mogawar at FAO headquarters today.

On the sidelines of the Regional Conference for the Near East, a Special Event on Yemen was organized to draw the attention of all Members to  the importance of a joint coordinated approach to support Yemeni agriculture,  rural development and food security.

Graziano da Silva highlights the value of the country’s expertise for the region

27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Iran’s Minister for Jihad-e-Agriculture, Mahmoud Hojjati, at FAO headquarters today.

The two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest for FAO and the country and agreed to step up the implementation phase of a range of projects. “Iran has great expertise in many areas that it could share with the region,” said the FAO chief.
