Ongoing collaboration ahead of the World Humanitarian Summit

30 March 2016, New York - FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva met with Stephen O’Brien, head of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in New York today to discuss ongoing collaboration ahead of the World Humanitarian Summit and plans to deploy an early warning system for major weather events such as El Nino.

Stronger bilateral relations with the region

15 March 2016, Abu Dhabi - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today wrapped up an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he participated in the eighth session of the Khalifa International Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation Award and held a series of talks with counterparts from the region.

This year’s Khalifa Award launching ceremony honored institutions, first and foremost FAO and IFAD.

Recognition of passionate pursuit of zero hunger at global level

11 March 2016, Putrajaya, Malaysia – The International Islamic University of Malaysia conferred its Lifetime Outstanding Achievement Award to FAO’s Director-General, José Graziano da Silva, for the Director-General’s lifetime of work at FAO and his 35 years as a professor in academia and the public sector which has focused on the  fight against hunger. Since its launch 30 years ago, the university has seen 50,000 graduates pass through its
