6 December 2016, Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today met with Eritrea's Minister for Agriculture, Arefaine Berhe, in Rome to attend the 115th session of the FAO Council.

The week-long session of the organization's executive council, opened with an address by FAO Director-General urging members to approve proposals aimed at increasing efforts to address climate change and achieve sustainable development.

African Union Champion for Nutrition joins international efforts against malnutrition

1 December 2016, Rome - King Letsie III of Lesotho was today appointed as FAO’s newest Special Ambassador for Nutrition by the Organization’s Director-General, José Graziano da Silva.

The announcement was made at the high-level International Symposium on Sustainable Food Systems for Healthy Diets and Improved Nutrition (1-2 December), held to explore country-level challenges and successes in the nutritional reshaping of food production, processing, marketing and retail systems. 25 November 2016, Gödöllő, Hungary – In the course of his visit to Hungary this week, Szent István University of Gödöllő awarded FAO Director-General with an honorary degree.

The Doctor Honoris Causa title was conferred by the university for, in the words of Rector János Tőzsér, Graziano’s “longstanding and excellent work in the field of agricultural and rural development, and for his efforts in fighting global food insecurity.”

24 November 2016, Budapest, HungaryThe Director-General met today with Hungarian Minister for Agriculture Sandor Fazekas, on the margins of the Regional Symposium on Agroecology for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems in Europe and Central Asia.
