2 November 2013 - Dakar, Senegal - Director-General of FAO, José Graziano da Silva, paid a courtesy call to former Director-General, Jacques Diouf, on 2 November at his home in Dakar, Senegal, and discussed many topics concerning food security.

2 November 2013, Dakar, Senegal – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva had a work session with the following Representatives of the United Nations System.

  • Ms Fatou Bintou DJIBO, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative
  • Ms Ingeborg Maria BREUER, WFP Representative and Country Director
  • Ms Giovanna BARBERIS, UNICEF Representative
  • Mr. Vincent Martin, FAO Representative

2 November 2013, Dakar, Senegal - FAO Director-General met with staff members from the FAO Representation in Senegal and the Subregional Emergency and Rehabilitation Office, both based in Dakar.

FAO Representative Vincent Martin welcomed Graziano da Silva to Senegal, saying that the visit helped reaffirm FAO support to the government, as well as to civil society and the private sector.

Graziano da Silva also had a meeting with the United Nations System coordination

Director-General with Senegalese Environment Minister and Brazilian Ambassador, visits slave-trade site, eyes nutrition-boosting efforts with local foods and farmers

1 November 2013, Gorée Island, SenegalThe Director-General of FAO visited historic Gorée Island with Senegal's Minister of the Environment Mor Ngom and Brazilian Ambassador Katia Godinho Gilaberte.

The Director-General paid a must-see visit to the island and its slave house, which were a departure point for slaves shipped to America as part of what was called the Triangular Trade. The House is now a UNESCO World Heritage

1 November 2013, Goree Island, Senegal - Director-General of FAO and Minister for Environment and Aquaculture of Senegal Mr Mor Ngom discussed the need for coordination and action for the Great Green Wall to become a reality, during an official visit which included a trip to historic Goree island. The Minister and regional counterparts have undertaken coordination of the initiative.
