FAO Director-General addresses Ministerial Meeting of the Organization’s Regional Conference for the Near East
27 February 2014, Rome -  The worsening of the food security situation in the Near East is not only caused by the structural constraints the region faces in producing enough food and an increasing dependence on food imports but by conflict, the flow of refugees and migration, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva said today.

Graziano da Silva highlights the need for a concerted strategy in the country

27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met withYemen’s Minister of  Agriculture and Irrigation Farid Ahmed Mogawar at FAO headquarters today.

On the sidelines of the Regional Conference for the Near East, a Special Event on Yemen was organized to draw the attention of all Members to  the importance of a joint coordinated approach to support Yemeni agriculture,  rural development and food security.

Graziano da Silva highlights the value of the country’s expertise for the region

27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Iran’s Minister for Jihad-e-Agriculture, Mahmoud Hojjati, at FAO headquarters today.

The two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest for FAO and the country and agreed to step up the implementation phase of a range of projects. “Iran has great expertise in many areas that it could share with the region,” said the FAO chief.

Graziano da Silva and Lachâal review the preparations for the upcoming Regional Conference for Africa

27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with Tunisia’s Minister for Agriculture Lassad Lachâal, at FAO headquarters today.

Graziano da Silva and the newly appointed minister reviewed the longstanding cooperation between FAO and Tunisia and discussed the Country Programming Framework signed in 2013.

27 February 2014, Rome – FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva met with the Chairman and Director General of Kuwait’s Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources Jasem Mohammad Habib Al-Bader at FAO headquarters today.

The Chairman expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing debates at the Near East Regional Conference and with the regional initiatives discussed during the same.

He highlighted the importance of the event within the renewed FAO and its
