FAO-China-Mongolia Tripartite South-South Cooperation
Your Excellency Mr. Khaltmaa Battulga, Minister for Industry and Agriculture,
Your Excellency Mr. Sun Zhonghua, Chief Agronomist,
Distinguished officials, participants, colleagues, friends,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my great honor to join you in this signing ceremony to launch Phase II of the tripartite China-Mongolia-FAO South-South Cooperation project.
China has been one of the most important partners of FAO’s South-South Cooperation Program since it was launched in 1996.
To date, China has sent nearly 1,000 agricultural experts and technicians to 24 developing countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and the Caribbean.
The total Chinese investment in this cooperation has surpassed the 30 million dollar mark.
Mongolia is one of the countries that participate in China’s South-South partnership with FAO.
Phase I of the project that we are extending today was successfully implemented from March 2010 to September 2013.
19 Chinese experts and technicians were involved in these efforts.
They helped strengthen the capacity of their counterparts in implementing activities that contributed to the fulfillment of the National Program for Food Security of Mongolia.
Based on the successful experience and results of the first phase of the project, the Government of Mongolia requested the implementation of a Phase II of this South-South Cooperation.
And that brings us to today.
The Tripartite Agreement that we are about to sign will further contribute to the efforts of Mongolia to promote food security and sustainable agricultural development.
FAO is proud to be part of this effort.
Thank you very much for your attention.
