FAO Regional Office for Africa

2nd African Regional Conference of Forest and Farm Producer Organizations (FFPOs), Morogoro, Tanzania from September 28-29, 2017.

FAO is a co-organizer of the 2nd African Regional Conference of Forest and Farm Producer Organizations (FFPOs) which will be held in Morogoro, Tanzania from 28-29 September, 2017. Hosted by MVIWATA, the National Networks of Farmers’ Groups in Tanzania, with the National Tree Growers Association of Tanzania, this event is building on the first regional conference which was held in June 2015 in Kenya.

A critical focus of the event, reflecting the growing strength of FFPOs, will be their efforts to mitigate climate change and reduce the necessity for migration from rural areas by providing greater opportunities for youth to earn their livelihoods in local production. The conference is also expected to help FFPOs to shape national cross-sectoral multi-stakeholder platforms to better influence public policy.

The theme of this conference, which is also looking towards Phase II of the FAO-hosted Forest Farm Facility (FFF), is “Strengthening Forest and Farm Producers’ Organizations in a Changing Climate” and sessions will include exchanges of experiences in such areas as business, innovation, youth and gender. A guide for market development for FFPOS will also be presented during the conference.
