Launch of implementation programme to address Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT-2) and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA)

FAO/USAID Meeting –12-13 January 2016, Nairobi

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), jointly with the Kenyan government,  will launch East Africa region’s implementation of the Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT-2) programme for Eastern Africa, on 12 January 2016, at the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi. 

This follows the signing of a new global grant of US$ 87 million by FAO’s Director-General and the US Ambassador in Rome on 20 October 2015.

The meeting will involve high-level representation from the Ministries in charge of Livestock of the target countries, USAID and FAO.  Other expected participants include Directors Veterinary Services from Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, USAID and EPT-2 partners’ representatives, FAO (FAO country offices, Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Rome, ECTAD Nairobi and other implementing partners.
