The theme for this year’s celebration is “Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty. It highlights the crucial role social protection plays in reducing chronic food insecurity and poverty by ensuring direct access to food or the means to buy food. Social protection also provides a viable way to stimulate agricultural production and local economic activity.

As part of the World Food Day Week activities that bring issues on the theme and FAO’s contribution to Social Protection in Africa, and for that matter Ghana, the following events are lined up: 

14 October 2015 : Press Conference, Main Conference Room in Block C, 10:00 am.

16 October 2015 : Official commemoration of the World Food Day at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra at 9:00 am.
