Senegal hosts the 21^st session of the Fishery Committee for the Central Eastern Atlantic (CECAF) 

From 20 to 22 April 2016, Senegal will host the 21^st session of the Fishery Committee for the Central Eastern Atlantic (CECAF), organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation, in Dakar. The meeting will bring together a hundred of participants, from near 20 African countries and evolving in the fisheries sector, as well as representatives of African Union (African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources) and European Union, African regional cooperation organizations (Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission/CSRP; Regional Fisheries Commission of the Gulf of Guinea /COREP; Fishery Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea/FCWC; etc.), as well as producers organizations (African Confederation of Artisanal Fisheries Professional Organizations/CAOPA).

The objective of the 21^st Session of CECAF is particularly to discuss the status of the elaboration and implementation of fisheries management plans and adopt CECAF management recommendations. Participants will also discuss the directions for improved functioning of CECAF, and collaboration with other regional and sub-regional organizations.

About CECAF

The Fishery Committee for the Central Eastern Atlantic (CECAF)was founded in June 1967 according to the FAO’s Constitution. The objective of CECAF is to encourage substainable use of marine living resources in its regulatory area by appropriate management.

The CECAF has 33 member-states and the European Union. Since its creation, the CECAF has played an important role for fishing management and development in Central Eastern Atlantic and became the pilot's primary reference in scientific research and building capacity in many areas such data collection on fishing, biological and demographic study of main species and stock assessment.
