Réunion régionale de la FAO sur les biotechnologies agricoles dans les systèmes alimentaires durables et la nutrition en Afrique subsaharienne

La réunion régionale sur les biotechnologies agricoles en Afrique subsaharienne aura lieu du 22 au 24 novembre 2017 au Centre de conférences de l’Union africaine, à Addis-Abeba en Éthiopie. Cette réunion de la FAO sera co-organisée et accueilli par le Gouvernement éthiopien.
Contexte
Du 15 au 17 février 2016, la FAO a convoqué le Symposium international sur le Rôle des biotechnologies agricoles dans les systèmes alimentaires durables et la nutrition au siège de la FAO, à Rome. Le but du Symposium était d’explorer l’application des biotechnologies au profit des petits agriculteurs dans le développement de systèmes alimentaires durables et l’amélioration de la nutrition, compte tenu du contexte lié au changement climatique.
Les participants de ce Symposium avaient mis l’accent sur l’importance de transposer le dialogue mondial au niveau régional. En clôturant le symposium, le Directeur général de la FAO avait conclu: «Nous avons l’intention de transposer le débat à l’échelle régionale. Nous voulons connaître, pour toutes les régions, les besoins et les inquiétudes concernant les biotechnologies tant des gouvernements, des agriculteurs que des chercheurs.» La FAO organise donc quatre réunions régionales dans le monde entier en 2017 et 2018.
La réunion régionale verra la participation des représentants de gouvernements, d’organisations intergouvernementales et des acteurs non gouvernementaux de la région. Le terme «acteurs non gouvernementaux» se réfère aux organisations de la société civile, aux entités du secteur privé (y compris les fondations philanthropiques), aux milieux universitaires et aux institutions de recherche ainsi qu’aux coopératives et organisations de producteurs.
