6th ANNUAL MEETING OF AQUACULTURE NETWORK FOR AFRICA, Entebbe, Uganda-6-9 December 2016

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Department (FI) in relation with the Committee for Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture for Africa (CIFAA), the Government of Uganda and the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization are organizing the Sixth Annual Meeting of the Aquaculture Network for Africa (ANAF), scheduled to be held in Entebbe, Uganda from 6 to 9 December 2016.

ANAF is closely related and working to the Committee on Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture in Africa (CIFAA) whose Secretariat is located in RAF.

At the fifth ANAF Annual meeting (Dakar, Senegal, 11-13 September 2013) participants reviewed the process of establishing ANAF as an Intergovernmental Organization (IGO).  Therefore, it was decided to create two working groups covering the following task: (a) identify prospective hosting governments of ANAF and propose a schedule of government contributions; (b) define the obligations for and recognized the benefits to host country; (c) develop the general and specific objectives as well as functions of ANAF, and (d) elaborate a regional work plan based on common priorities included in the national plans of ANAF Member countries, and to determine a budget estimate and options for fund raising.

It is within the framework of following up on the recommendation of the 5th annual meeting that this 4-days workshop is being convened.  The purpose is to:

  1. Review the commitment of ANAF by its Member countries.
  2. Discuss and agree on the (i) Founding Agreement, (ii) Rules of Procedure, (iii) Financial Regulations, (iv) Headquarters Agreement, and (v) strategy and concrete follow up actions leading to the establishment of ANAF-IGO.
