Bureau régional de la FAO pour l'Afrique

21-22 March 2017, Zambia, Regional Forum on Nationally Determined Contributions in Zambia

FAO-COMESA workshop on the Green Climate Fund and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in Zambia. Country representative from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe will attend.

It’s a good opportunity to stress the support FAO is providing to countries to achieve not only the Paris agreement through their NDCs but also to link to the achievements of SDGs 2 and 13.

Workshop objective: To strengthen the relationship between Ministries of Agriculture and the Green Climate Fund’s Nationally Designated Authorities (GCF NDAs) for improved collaboration on climate programmes in the agricultural sectors. Continuity: This workshop builds on the June 2016 workshop: From agreement to action: Harnessing the Paris Agreement, INDCs and climate finance to deliver climate-smart agricultural development, which provided support to COMESA member states to better mobilize their INDCs commitments to deliver climate-smart agricultural development and to attain the SDGs. Planned workshop outcomes:  Representatives from Ministries of Agriculture have detailed and accurate knowledge on the Green Climate Fund’s modalities and opportunities.  Nationally Designated Authorities have more in-depth knowledge about what the agricultural sectors can offer in terms of climate action.  Representatives from Ministries of Agriculture and GCF NDAs are better able to engage with one another.  Peer-to-peer collaboration and exchange is reinforced between participating countries.
