21-22 March 2017, Zambia, Regional Forum on Nationally Determined Contributions in Zambia
FAO-COMESA workshop on the Green Climate Fund and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in Zambia. Country representative from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe will attend.
It’s a good opportunity to stress the support FAO is providing to countries to achieve not only the Paris agreement through their NDCs but also to link to the achievements of SDGs 2 and 13.
Workshop objective: To strengthen the relationship between Ministries of Agriculture and the Green Climate Fund’s Nationally Designated Authorities (GCF NDAs) for improved collaboration on climate programmes in the agricultural sectors. Continuity: This workshop builds on the June 2016 workshop: From agreement to action: Harnessing the Paris Agreement, INDCs and climate finance to deliver climate-smart agricultural development, which provided support to COMESA member states to better mobilize their INDCs commitments to deliver climate-smart agricultural development and to attain the SDGs. Planned workshop outcomes: Representatives from Ministries of Agriculture have detailed and accurate knowledge on the Green Climate Fund’s modalities and opportunities. Nationally Designated Authorities have more in-depth knowledge about what the agricultural sectors can offer in terms of climate action. Representatives from Ministries of Agriculture and GCF NDAs are better able to engage with one another. Peer-to-peer collaboration and exchange is reinforced between participating countries.
