Crop Protection Programme continues to address the prevention and reduction of pest damage and pesticide associated risks to human health and the environment. It supports national programmes through global and inter-regional action and includes contributions to the international regulatory and cooperative frameworks related to plant health.
High priority is given to the International plan Protection Convention (IPPC), in particular standard setting, information exchange and capacity building, the Rotterdam Convention, the international Code of Conduct on the distribution and Use of Pesticides, pesticides standards, IPM policy and implementation. Regulatory and policy aspects of pest and pesticide management are consolidated into one entity including joint FAO/UNEP Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention. Field programmes in pesticide management reflect the life cycle management approach.
