The Constitution requires that a General Session is organised every two
years at FAO HQ, Rome, to decide on the main orientations of the activities of the
Commission. At this session, each member country is represented by a delegate, usually the
Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) or another high-ranking veterinary official. The Commission
is presented with reports on the FMD situation in various regions, a report from the World
Reference Laboratory for FMD, IAH, Pirbright, UK, a report on the activities of the
secretariat and a report on the activities of the research group. It reviews the finances
of the Commission and elects the members of the Executive Committee and the Research
Group. The next General Session will be the 35th Session and it will be held in FAO HQ,
Rome, Italy in April 2003 (provisionally 9-11 April). The report of the 34th Session can be found here. |
