Feed intake and weight gain decreased when karanja (Pongamia glabra [pinnata]) cake (crude protein 33.2, ether extract 2.2%) replaced 25-75% of groundnut cake (GC) or sesame cake plus GC in the ration of Large White pigs, initially 27.7 kg body weight. This was considered to be caused by the repugnant smell associated with bitter principles in the oil fraction of karanja cake.
