Pressed cake of kosum (Schleichera oleosa) is completely different from the cultivated, edible variety (Carthamus tinctorius) and contained crude protein (CP) 20.9, fat 7.4, crude fibre 9.0, N-free extract 56.9, carbohydrate 65.9, ash 5.8, calcium 0.52 and phosphorus 1.14% in DM. Digestibility, estimated by difference using ewes given for 40 days oat fodder to appetite with or without 300 g kosum cake daily, was DM 65.8 and organic matter 61.2%. Inclusion of kosum cake significantly improved N balance from 0.48 to 7.8 g daily. Nutritive values for cake were digestible CP 18.4, total digestible nutrients 73.2, starch equivalent 69.9%, digestible energy 3235 kcal/kg and metabolizable energy 2650 kcal/kg DM.
